Police cite Waffle House for staying open past curfew to feed linemen

The Waffle House was open past curfew feeding linemen at nearby hotels.

Thibodaux Police officers issued a summons to the Waffle House on N. Canal Blvd. on Tuesday, Sept. 7th.

Unfiltered with Kiran happened to stop at the Waffle House while covering Hurricane Ida’s aftermath and watched it all happen.

The linemen were staying at the nearby hotels, Hampton Inn & Days Inn, that are walking distance from the restaurant.

The linemen were from Alabama and Georgia and needed a meal after working all day to restore power post Hurricane Ida. It’s why Waffle House did disobey the 7pm curfew set by the City of Thibodaux.

The curfew goes from 7pm till 6am and officials did say it would be strictly enforced.  The Waffle House was open till 9pm before they were forced to shut down.

The crew working at Waffle House this particular night did lock the door after receiving the summons to keep additional customers from coming in, but the manager made it a point to feed everyone who was already in line.

Additional linemen had be turned away, but the manager told everyone in the Waffle House that she would be back at 5:30am cooking for the men.

Unfiltered with Kiran did put in a call to the Thibodaux Police Dept. for comment, but did not receive a call back.
